Taylor Phinney
Posted by Andy in News, Pro Cycling, Racing on April 4th, 2010
While the big boys of the pro tour have been tuning up for the season at events like Criterium International and, today, the Tour of Flanders, the young guns have been staging their own shoot-outs. Not uncharacteristically, Taylor Phinney of Trek-Livestrong has been slayin’ it.
Last week Taylor killed at the UCI Track World Championships, winning the men’s individual pursuit (yet again). Here’s a photo of his response to victory (note to viewers: get used to this pose).
As a follow-up to this victory, Taylor and team went to the Tryptique Monts et Chateaux, where after falling in the time trial (when he had a huge lead over everyone else) to finish 8 seconds down, he attacked the field near the end of the race and held on for the victory. Here’s a familiar pose:
Pretty sure we all need to get used to seeing Taylor in this pose at the ends of races. What a beast. Go USA and go Taylor Phinney!
Tour of Flanders!

Okay, now the racing season is really here. Bike racing is suffering, heartbreak, and perseverance through agony embodied. Few races on earth bring these realities home like the Tour of Flanders. The race will be shown on Versus at 5pm EDT on Sunday, April 4th. I cannot wait. Also, here’s maybe my favorite bike race promo EVAR:
Just Awesome.
Here’s a couple photos of the Team Radio Shack boys training on the TOF course in Belgium this week, taken by Johan Bruyneel.
Lance’s Pre-race Vid with Jens Voight

Lance continues his pre-race video series from the Giro with The Man, Jens Voight. Interesting to get Jens’ take on Team Cervelo’s tactics on stage 15. But anyway, Lance, Levi, and Jens: ’nuff said.

Armstrong Sparks Media Boycott of Twitter
Posted by Andy in News, Pro Cycling on May 23rd, 2009
Found this gem today:
“FLORENCE, Italy (AFP) – Lance Armstrong’s refusal to speak directly to the press at the Tour of Italy has sparked a boycott by some sections of the Italian and anglophone media of the American’s online messages…“
Lance’s response? “Good luck with that, and welcome to 2009.” Brilliant.
Taylor Phinney Fleche du Sud Prologue
Posted by Andy in Pro Cycling, Racing on May 21st, 2009
Taylor Phinney totally killed this 4k prologue course for the Fleche du Sud on his way to victory for the Trek/Livestrong team. An no wonder, his coach was yelling at him almost constantly for the entire 4k. Early on in the course you can hear the guys in the chase car talking about how Taylor’s already 10 seconds faster than any previous rider. Awesome.
This guy is definitely a major talent, a sure champion in the future of grand racing, and a great addition to the Trek/Livestrong team.
Giro Images of Astana + Live Action

Speaking of Astana, here’s a huge photo gallery featuring Astana’s Giro team. Great stuff!
By the way, you can catch the entire Giro (sometimes with commentary) at Universal Sports. They’re a lifesaver since Versus decided not to televise the race. Unbelievable.
